An important and exciting moment: the opening of the doorway connecting the old and the new building. Taking away the straw and the plaster was more difficult than expected but with the help of a chainsaw the job was done in about two hours. The straw was extremely compacted and together with the sturdy plaster it made a very stable and strong impression. The heap of straw gives an idea of the quantity of straw which makes up the wall and facilitates its extreme insulation.
For a good understanding, this doorway was not part of the original plan which was the construction of a completely new building next to this garden house. But for several reasons we decided to amplify the existing building instead of starting a new one. It is now clear that this kind of extension is perfectly possible and offers nice opportunities for people who are afraid of building a final big house with straw bales and prefer to start on a smaller scale.

The walls received two layers of limewash.

Un momento importante y excitante: la apertura de la puerta entre el edificio viejo y nuevo. Quitar la paja y el revoco costó mas de la cuenta pero con la ayuda de una motosierra lo hicimos en unos dos horas. La paja estaba extremadamente compactada y junto con el revoco firme daba una impresión de estabilidad y fuerza. La pila de paja da una idea de la cantidad de paja metida en el muro y le da su extremo aislamiento.

Para un buen entendimiento: este paso no fue parte del plan original que fue la construcción de un edificio completamente nuevo al lado de esta casa de 'aperos'. Por varias razones decidimos ampliar la casa existente en lugar de hacer una nueva. Queda claro que esta amplificación resulta perfectamente posible y ofrece interesantes oportunidades para gente que no se atreven a hacer su casa final con este método con balas de paja y prefieren empezar a una escala mas pequeña.

Los muros recibieron dos capas de lechada de cal
