a S T A M M E R project 2006 December 9 & 10, Saturday & Sunday This photograph gives an impression of what we often saw in the early morning these days: a clear sky but banks of mist in the lower valleys around us. Apart from offering beautiful views, this mist can play also an important role for our future house. We want to make use of solar energy to heat our house and the frequent appearance of mist may frustrate this heating especially on cold winter mornings like this. Experts recommend an altitude of at least 700 metres for this region, so we are (with 650m) just at the limit. This was sometimes confirmed when the mist started to invade our area, like what happened today, but this was fortunately usually a question of an hour or two. |

The end of the mushroom season was announced by the massive appearance of a very peculiar species, Helvella crispa (White saddle, Elfin saddle or also Common helvel). Many smaller mushrooms species would nevertheless continue appearing and probably will do so all year round.

Also quite special were these drops of orange paint on the soil that I had found one month before. If I am not mistaken they belong to Melastiza chateri (Orange Cup), a typical colonizer of bare earth.
