Wet winter effects

The extremely wet winter has had a widely varied impact on different species. The German iris (Iris germanica) on the green roof is flowering as never before but strangely enough the same species on solid ground doesn't almost flower at all. Perhaps the abundant rain has favoured the vegetative growth of the leaves to the detriment of the development of flowers. On the roof with its shallow layer of 6cm soil and good drainage the effect of much rain is less.

El invierno tremendamente lluvioso tuvo un impacto muy diverso sobre los diferentes especies. El Lirio alemán (Iris germanica) en el tejado verde florece como nunca antes pero las mismas plantas en el suelo solido curiosamente apenas florecen. Quizas la abundante lluvia ha favorecido el crecimiento vegetativo de las hojas en detrimento del desarrollo de las flores. En el tejado con su fina capa de 6cm de tierra y un buen drenaje el efecto de tanta lluvia es menor.
