Recycling the soil

After the flowering of the Almond trees it's the turn of the white flowers of the Blackthorn (at the back). Meanwhile I keep digging. The top layer with plants and roots has already been taken away and put on the heap on the right. It will be used for the green roof of the new wing. The mineral clay soil below is collected on the heap on the left and will be used for the plastering of the straw bale walls and the adobe floor inside. So the movement and waste of soil is minimal and the whole operation is not only ecological but efficient and economical as well. As for the digging: it is amazing how quickly the body adapts and how much work can be done, digging only for two hours a day.

Despùes de la floracion de los almendros, toca ahora el turno a las flores blancas de endrino (al fondo). Mientras tanto estoy excavando la tierra. La capa con plantas y raíces ya ha sido quitada y puesta en la pila de la derecha. Será utilizada para el tejado verde de la nueva ala. La capa de tierra mineral abajo se apila a la izquierda y será utilizada para revocar los muros de bala de paja y el suelo de adobe interior. Asi que el movimiento y desperdicio de tierra es minimo y toda la operación no solamente resulta ecológica sino también eficiente y económica. En lo que se refiere a la excavación: es sorprendente con que rapidez el cuerpo se adapta y cuanto trabajo se puede hacer trabajando solamente dos horas al dia.
